Google Pagerank has been Updated Again

If you watch your pagerank you might want to check it today. I happened to notice that the pagerank on my Google Juice blog suddenly went from zero to three. That was quite a surprise considering that the domain was registered brand-new less than one month ago. I will humbly say that I must've done something right.

When I saw that the pagerank of my Google Juice blog went up I decided to check some other domains. In some cases I was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, I was burned on a couple recently purchased domains that I had not developed yet. Some of those lost one point of pagerank and some of them lost all of their pagerank. Let that be a lesson to you and me to not let domains with pagerank sit idle.

I have quite a number of domains that were registered for the first time four months ago that were awarded pagerank by the Google pagerank god. Most of the domains ended up as pagerank one or two, but I had one insurance related domain that jumped to a pagerank of three.

I also was whacked upside the head by Murphy's Law. At least this one wasn't my fault. I won a solid PR4 domain in the Godaddy expired domains auction this morning. When I checked it this afternoon it had dropped to a PR2. Oh well, at least I only paid $21 for the domain. Hopefully the other PR4 domain that I won this morning doesn't get knocked back before I can take control of it.

In all cases, with my domains, the pagerank changes seem to be logical. The sites I concentrated on optimizing and getting directory and social bookmarking links for were the ones that had a nice boost in pagerank. The domains than I can put sites on but not really concentrated on link building for stayed the same. And the domains with pagerank that I had neglected lost pagerank.

The moral of the story is to not neglect your domains and to get some kind of site set up on your domains. You never know when the Google pagerank god is going to pay a visit.

Please post the changes you have seen in your pagerank and your thoughts about the changes in the comments. You do not have to be a Blogger member to post a comment.

Hi,
After reading your blog, wich is very interesting , I checked my website www.maniacomputer.com pagerank and I noticed that if I type in the browser the website address, the pagerank is 1 ,instead if I add at the end /default.html,wich is the name of the home page ,it scores 2.That's weird.
Also ,I developed the entire website with a different syle and design, but if I upload the newone my pagerank drops to zero.
Any suggestion?

Google treats every form of a page address as if it were a different page. That is why you want to be consistant with the address when you get backlinks when you can. The usual problme is with and without the www, but the way the home page is specified as in your case can be seen differently also.

I'm not sure why your new design would have an immediate impact unless the page address is being seen differently by Google -- like index.htm instead of default.htm etc.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. You are very clear and now I know why google treats www.maniacomputer.com differently to www.maniacomputer.com/default.html despite it's the same page.
Basically for the same reason I was loosing the pagerank with the new look.In the new navigation system I typed one letter of the root folder upper-case by mistake. I solved, anyway.
