Is Google changing pagerank again?

I may be just starting a rumor, but I just saw something that makes me wonder -- "Is Google changing pagerank again?" I know many people try to deny that pagerank really matters, but it does. Sure, you can do well with a low pagerank, but you can do much better in the SERPs much more easily if you have a high pagerank.

So, why am I asking the question - "Is Google changing pagerank again?" Well, since I like to keep track of the pagerank of any site I'm visiting including my own, I use a FireFox plug in that displays that little green bar indicator. I also have Google Desktop installed and actually have a pagerank display with that as well.

I loaded the main page of one of sites that is normally pagerank 5. I almost fell off of my chair when I saw that little green pagerank bar in both places was showing a pagerank of 7. After I picked myself up I navigated away from the page and when I loaded it again the pagerank was back to 5. Perhaps that happens every now and then, but it is the first time I ever saw it.

Is it feasible that my pagerank 5 site could go to a pagerank 7 in the next round of adjustments? I doubt it, but then again, it has been steadily getting more traffic and more referrers from Google. Last month I hit 1.5 million pageviews, so who knows?

So, the question remains: "Is Google changing pagerank again?" Leave a comment and tell me what you think. Have you seen a momentary change in pagerank like I described? Is a change imminent? Am I crazy -- forget that last one -- I probably don't want to know the answer.
